As from September 2009 the Transport Tribunal's work is being transferred into the new tribunal structure. It was originally set up to hear appeals against decisions of Traffic Commissioners in connection with the Heavy Goods Vehicles & Public Services Vehicles Operators Licensing Systems and this work is being moved into the Upper Tribunal (Administrative Appeals Chamber – Transport).
From 2002 it heard appeals against decisions of the Registrar of Approved Driving Instructors and the members of the Tribunal were also appointed to act as the London Service Permits Appeal Panel. From 2008 the Tribunal was appointed to hear training provider appeals. In addition, for many years it has been able to resolve postal disputes, now under the Postal Services Act 2000. All these appeals (driving instructor, London Service Permits, training providers and postal disputes) are being moved into the First–tier Tribunal (General Regulatory Chamber – Transport)
